David McKalip, M.D.
With more than twenty years experience, David McKalip, M.D., is a highly respected neurosurgeon who brings an understanding of many medical disciplines to his medical and surgical practice. Dr. McKalip practiced continuously for 18 years in the Tampa Bay area of Florida.
Dr. McKalip now practices neurosurgery in Cartersville and Calhoun Georgia since early 2020. He sees patients and does surgery at Piedmont Cartersville Medical Center and Advent Health Gordon Hospital. He started the spine surgery program at Gordon Hospital and has been instrumental in building a brain surgery program at Cartersville Medical Center.
In addition to state-of-the-art experience, he brings his caring mind and heart to counsel his patients at the spine care center he founded and where he is the medical director.
A graduate of the University of South Florida (1987 B.S. in Biology, Cum Laude) Dr. McKalip then attended the University of South Florida’s College of Medicine, receiving his M.D. degree in 1991. After a general surgery internship at the University of South Florida, he trained in the neurosurgery residency at the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill from 1992 to 1998.
He served as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Neurological Surgery at the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF from 1998-2000). While at UCSF he was the Co-Director of Neurotrauma at San Francisco General Hospital where he was actively involved in clinical neurotrauma research.
Medical Practice
Returning to St. Petersburg, Florida, after his term as a university neurotrauma educator and co-medical director, he started his private practice in September 2000. As a resident of St. Petersburg (with his wife and three children) he was an active member and leader in the community and served on the Clinical faculty of the University of South Florida Department of Neurological Surgery. He relocated his practice to Lawton, OK in 2018.
Dr. McKalip is a Past President of the Florida Neurosurgical Society. He served on the Board of the Florida Medical Association (FMA) and has served on the Florida Delegation to the AMA’s key policy making body, the House of Delegates.
For more than three years, he served as an officer of the Pinellas County Medical Association and has served on the Board for eight years. He is past President of the Florida Chapter of the Association of American Physicians and Surgeons.
Dr. McKalip is now a member of the Bartow County Medical Association (Georgia) as well as the American Association of Neurological Surgeons and Congress of Neurological Surgeons.
